Newsletter Summer 3                                                                         4th May 2012

Dear Parents

The children were very excited to take part in the Pro-Kick Schools Challenge today with ex-footballer Paul Mitchell.  They were fired up and ready to kick the football as fast as they could into the back of the net.  All children had a wonderful time and enjoyed cheering on their classmates.  Everyone who took part will be receiving a certificate with their top speed on.  The fastest kicking boy and girl from each class will also be receiving a medal.  Congratulations to the following children who were the fastest from their class.

  • Year R

    Kadie Wheeler-Osman 18.4mph

    Tyler Thomas 21.9mph

  • Year 1

    Aoife-Niamh West 25.8mph

    Paul James 23.8mph

  • Year 2

    Christina Kennett 21.7mph

    Kian Morpeth 27.0mph

These children showed fantastic levels of skill and tried really hard to improve on their scores.  Congratulations also to Mrs Parry who was the fastest kicking teacher with a whopping speed of 34.9mph.

We were delighted this week to find out that we were winners in a competition run by Tinkers Cross Farm.  We have won a hatching experience where we will be receiving an incubator with 10 eggs.  The children will be involved in the responsibility and incubation of the eggs and encounter the anticipation and excitement of watching them hatch and grow into cute, fluffy little chicks.  We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Baldwin who entered us into the competition.  We will be receiving our eggs shortly after half term and we will definitely keep you posted!

Due to the secondary schools in the area scheduling their transition days for Friday 6th July it has been necessary to us to change the date of our planned INSET Day. Therefore the school will now be open as normal on Friday 6th July and closed on Monday 9th July instead.

ATTENDANCE – BEST CLASS

The best attending class last week was Year 2.

OLYMPIC TORCH EVENT:  FRIDAY 18TH MAY 2012

To celebrate the Olympics and to raise pupil awareness of what hosting the event means to the UK we are planning an exciting event for the whole school on Friday 18th May 2012. Unfortunately the real Olympic torch will not pass through Fawley on its journey to London so before the Olympics start in July we want the pupils to ‘know’ the Olympics are coming!

All the pupils will be taking part in an Olympic Torch procession at Gang Warily Recreation Centre with all the children from Blackfield and this will be followed by a magnificent 10 Paralympic sports finale. They will leave school at 12.45pm to walk to Gang Warily and the torch procession will start at 1.15pm, finishing at 2.30pm.

Pupils will need their PE kit, RED, WHITE and/or BLUE clothes and a sun hat.

You are all invited to watch the event from the ‘grand stand’ – the grassy bank. Please feel free to bring

along chairs or blankets to sit on and keep your fingers crossed for a dry day.

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK:  21st – 28th MAY

The time to walk to school every day has come round again and your child will be bringing home information about this national event next week.  If you are unable to walk to school with your children due to work commitments you might be able to leave a little earlier than usual and park further away from school than usual so that your children can walk the last part of their journey. By doing this they will qualify for their sticker, along with children who walk all the way to school, and children who walk every day and get a sticker every day will receive a certificate at the end of the week.

ALL ABOUT OWLS!  NEW FOREST CENTRE, FRIDAY 18TH MAY 7.00-9.00PM

Are you interested in owls?  The New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst are hosting a special event where you can join their visitors from the Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre.  Have fun with crafts, trails, quizzes and more.  Children go FREE, adults £2.  Please feel free to drop in between 7.00 and 9.00pm on Friday 18th May.

NEW ADMISSIONS FOR SEPTEMBER 2012

Is your younger child due to start school in September?  Have you brought in your proof of identification?  The deadline has passed for us to receive proof of identity and we still have some details outstanding.  If your child has a place at Fawley Infant School for September and you have not yet brought in proof of ID, then please do so as soon as possible.  Thank you!

HEALTHY SCHOOL REMINDER

Well done to all those children who are bringing in healthy and balanced packed lunches.  As a Healthy School, we promote healthy eating and encourage children to eat a well balanced meal at lunchtime.  For this reason, please could I remind parents that no sweets, big bars of chocolate or fizzy drinks are to be provided for lunchtimes at school, thank you.

PARKING REMINDER

Please can I take this opportunity to remind all parents that parking is not allowed in the turning circle.  We would please ask all parents to follow this rule to ensure the safety of all children.

ICT CLUB – WEDNESDAY LUNCHTIMES

We have started an ICT club on a Wednesday lunchtime for Year 1 and 2 children.  This will give the children an opportunity to access the Internet or go on their favourite programmes.  They are welcome for the whole session or can pop in for a short while as and when they like.  We had quite a few children in this Wednesday and they enjoyed their time on the laptops!
